I've an unusual perspective. Good, bad, or indifferent, I am confident that intelligent people will agree that my perspective is unusual, and further, will agree on at least part of the reason that it is unusual: I am a fifty-two year old graduate student in the biological sciences at a major research institution who has had multiple previous careers... This contrasts with almost everyone in academic science, people who have for the most part, had little experience outside academic science.
